Security Safeguards
CalOptima has appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards in place to protect the privacy of health information on all forms, including electronic and hard copy. CalOptima staff are trained and educated to ensure that reasonable measures are taken to safeguard protected health information from any use or disclosure that would violate HIPAA regulations or CalOptima’s privacy policies. CalOptima staff have limited access to protected health information through job-based access and password protections. CalOptima has firewalls to protect information from those who do not need to access protected health information to perform their job functions. CalOptima conducts regular training sessions on HIPAA regulations, the CalOptima Privacy Program, and policies and procedures. All CalOptima employees are required to complete annual training on corporate and HIPAA compliance. All employees who knowingly violate the terms listed in CalOptima’s Privacy Program or the policies and procedures are subject to disciplinary action, including and up to possible termination and civil and/or criminal prosecution.
