Depression

Depression affects people in different ways.

What Is Depression?

Feeling sad at times is a normal part of life. But when feelings of sadness last for more than a few weeks and even small things become hard to do, you may be depressed. Depression is a common illness that can affect your thoughts, your mood, your physical health and your daily activities. Depression affects people in different ways. Symptoms of depression can include:

  • Feeling sad, empty or hopeless most of the day, almost every day, for 2 or more weeks

  • Loss of interest in activities

  • Weight loss or weight gain

  • Sleeping too much or too little

  • Loss of energy or low energy

  • Feeling ill with no physical reason

  • Trouble thinking or making decisions

  • Feeling worthless

  • Thoughts of not wanting to live

If you have had little interest or pleasure in doing things or have felt down, depressed or hopeless over the past 2 weeks, you may be suffering from depression. Call your doctor for an assessment.
