Michelle Steel

Supervisor, Second District

Michelle Steele

First elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2014, Michelle Steel represents the Second District, which includes Costa Mesa, Cypress, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Stanton, the unincorporated area of Rossmoor, and portions of Buena Park and Fountain Valley. Steel is the first Korean American to serve on the Board of Supervisors. A successful businesswoman and renowned taxpayer advocate, she previously served as Vice Chair of the State Board of Equalization where she represented more than 8 million people in Southern California, including all of Orange County, as one of the state’s 12 constitutional officers. As a member of the Board of Equalization, Steel distinguished herself as the state’s leading tax fighter. During her first term, she discovered that the Board of Equalization had delayed the return of millions in security deposits owed to California businesses. Steel’s decisive leadership led to the return of more than $400 million to taxpayers. Steel holds a degree in business from Pepperdine University and an Executive MBA from the University of Southern California, and she is fluent in Korean and Japanese. Steel was appointed a CalOptima director in January 2018.
