Nikan Khatibi

Dr. Nikan Khatibi is a specialist in anesthesiology, pain management and addiction medicine. Involved in health care policy for more than 10 years, Dr. Khatibi serves as an advocate for patients and providers through his work with a variety of organizations, including the California Medical Association, American Medical Association, California Health Professions Education Foundation (Governor Appointee) and American Heart Association. Dr. Khatibi divides his time between clinical practice, research and teaching. He has authored 30 journal articles focusing on traumatic brain injury, stroke and targeted gene medication therapy, especially for those battling with chronic pain. Dr. Khatibi has earned several prestigious awards for his work, including being named a Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research Scholar by the American Society of Anesthesiologists and receiving the Excellence in Medicine Award from the American Medical Association. He serves as a clinical instructor at University of California, Riverside School of Medicine and Western University of Health Sciences. Passionate about giving back to those who protect our country, Dr. Khatibi is a captain and physician at March Air Reserve Base, providing care to military members. He was appointed a CalOptima director in August 2016 and Vice Chair in July 2018.
