Multipurpose senior services (MSSP) program MSSP provides social and health care management services to delay older adults from having to go to nursing homes.

Supplemental security income (SSI) application assistance SSI is a federal income supplement program to help aged (65 or over), blind or disabled people who have little or no income. It provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.

Case management

We have Case Management for members who have difficult medical problems. Case managers are doctors, nurses or other health care professionals who help arrange for medical care, community resources and other services that may be needed.

Substance Use Disorder Preventive Services

Alcohol Misuse Screening and Counseling (AMSC) is a benefit covered by CalOptima for all members ages 18 and older.

Covered Services:

  • 1 alcohol misuse screening using an approved screening tool per year (more screenings if medically necessary).
  • Up to 3 brief behavioral counseling sessions per year (more sessions if medically necessary).

Not Covered:

CalOptima does not cover services for major alcohol problems, but members may be referred to the Orange County Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS).
